Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was born on August 6th 1928, where he was the youngest son in a family of three. In 1934,
Andy moved to a brick home where he joined the nearby Holmes School, and was able to take free art classes at Carnegie Institute, but is now known as the Carnegie Museum of Art. At the age of Nine, Andy was given his first camera as he really enjoyed taking photos where he developed them by himself in his basement.

Before Andy Warhol became a famous Pop Art artist, He was pursuing his career in New York after graduating from The Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Pictorial design. However Andy’s main aim was to become a commercial illustrator. At this point of Andy Warhol’s life, he started to experiment using different techniques to make his art more interesting. During the 1950’s, Andy started to use a ‘Blotted Line’ technique to cultivate a signature style for his illustration. ‘Blotted Line’ was able to help Andy create a variation of illustrations along a similar theme to
basic print making. This particular start to Andy Warhol’s work, made him really visible to the public as he went to dance and Opera performances, Galleries, Museums and the New York Library where he researched images that he used in his illustration later on.

For example, the image on the left is a photograph of one of his art illstration he accomplished in his early years. In this particular piece of art work, he specialised in ink and Dr, Martin’s Aniline dye on Strathmore paper. This is called the Female fashion figure.

This particular piece of art work produced by Andy Warhol is quit unique. He has carefully applied on black ink around the objects in his work, which makes the figures stand out more as well as eye catching.
